Mel Arranz (Vitoria-Gasteiz, 1998) is a visual artist and educator with a degree in Fine Arts (EHU/UPV and UNAM, 2020).
Her artistic practice revolves mostly around animation, illustration and sound.
She has shown her work in several art group exhibitions in both the Basque Country and Mexico, and was Artist-in-Residence in Uharte in 2021 and from March to May 2023 in Vienna.
Her first animated film, Azaletik Azalera (2021), has been selected in Rotterdam, Stuttgart and Anifilm, among other international festivals, winning several awards.
Bubblegum pink, blood red, high heels, and a transsexual bitch that explores her sexuality with men. This is a project I will be starting during my stay in Vienna, a colorful animation made of different styles. I would like to explore cut-out, stop motion, drawing, and video techniques to see how they can match and be part of the same film. I would like to experiment with low-budget filmmaking techniques. The project has no plot yet and I will work on it while working on the scenes that cross my mind and my personal experiences.
