March 2026 - March 2026Hannah Wu (b. 1998) is an artist and animator from London. Her work explores the cross-cultural possibilities of animation, investigating ideas around language and identity through tactile analogue processes. Her recent film “走 (zǒu)” continues this exploration through ink on paper and direct 35mm animation and has screened at festivals internationally.
She holds a BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford and an MA in Animation from the Royal College of Art, where she was awarded the Eranda Rothschild Scholarship. She has lived and studied in Japan as a recipient of the Daiwa Scholarship and in Taiwan on the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship.
During her residency at the MuseumsQuartier, she intends to develop ideas for a new film through further explorations in ink and its materiality, specifically as a bridge between writing and drawing. Taking inspiration from her recent experience of studying Mandarin in Taiwan, she will research connections between the act of repetition in language learning and animation, investigating how words and drawings, when repeated by hand, can result in mistakes, surprises and transformation, thereby becoming a form of resistance.
