November 2025 - December 2025Clirimtare Januzaj is a cultural anthropologist based in Prishtina, Kosovo. She holds a degree in Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Prishtina, "Hasan Prishtina", Faculty of Philosophy. Her work focuses on cultural heritage preservation, oral history, collective memory, human rights, and atrocity studies- particularly within the context of post-war Kosovo.
Over the years, she has contributed as a reseacher to various initiatives documenting the consequences of war and political violence in Kosovo. Her work has included collaborating with survivors and communities to preserve personal testimonies and historical narratives. Notably, she has worked with institutions such as the Children of War Museum and the Museum of the Krusha e Madhe Massacre, where she played a key role in collecting and documenting survivor's testimonies contributing to a better understanding of trauma, memory and resilience.
A central focus of her anthropological research has been the documentation of transhumant pastoralism (a form of pasture farming that involves the seasonal movement of livestock between fixed summer and winter pastures) in the mountains regions of Kosovo. This project, grounded in a holistic community-based methodology, examines seasonal mobility, land-based knowledge, and sustainable practices of livestock herding. This research has recieved international recognition for its contribution to understanding intangible cultural heritage and ecological adaption in highland enviroments.
Currently Clirimtare serves as a project coordinator at the Youth Initiative for Human Rights- Kosovo (YIHR KS), a civil society organization commited to justice, peacebuilding and reconciliation.
Beyond academia and institutional work, she is passionate about community- based cultural initiatives, creative storytelling and socially engaged art. She has taken part in European youth exchanges and international forums, workshops on permaculture, ecosystem sustainability and cultural cooperation, including International Soup Festival in Rome. Her interdisciplinary and intersectional approach continues to be shaped by lived experience, field engagement, and a commitment to critical reflection and transformative justice.
Clirimtare Januzaj is a scholarship holder of the "Fokus International" program, which was launched in cooperation with the Austrian Ministry of Culture (BMWKMS) in 2023. Young cultural workers from Kosovo (2023 - 2025) and South Africa (2025 - 2027) are invited to Austria to complete two-month internships at selected Viennese art institutions, thereby gaining work experience and enriching the host institution through their collaboration.
During her residency at MQ, Clirimtare Januzaj will support the team at KÖR Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Wien. Her residency will focus on exploring the intersections of public art, collective memory and lived space from an anthropological perspective. She is particularly interested in how public space can become a living archive - an agora- where cultural narratives, silences, and everyday gestures converge. Through socially engaged methodologies, she seeks to activate forms of listening, belonging, and resonance that connect people to place in both intimate and political ways.
