Maria is a researcher working on urban democracy and digital participation. Her research interests circle around the concepts of co-production and Municipalism driven by a philosophy of emancipatory politics for urban development and planning.

Based in Berlin she is part of several political initiatives at the intersection of practice-oriented organizing and the long-term establishment of sustainable infrastructures. Her PhD project at the University of Catalunya is dedicated to exploring the future of political party organization in the context of digitalization and deliberative-participatory democracy from a European perspective including Madrid and Barcelona.

Decidim.Berlin is a practice-oriented research project analyzing the potentials and thresholds of building a digital infrastructure for urban initiatives and participatory networks in Berlin. Following the philosophy of a ‘Municipalist Agenda’ the project is focused on designing and implementing an open-source platform for the benefits of urban activists and projects.
