Lana Čmajčanin was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1983. She holds an MFA in Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Sarajevo. Her work encompasses installations, video works, performances and sound installations. Čmajčanin’s socially engaged artistic practice is often situated and has a strong reference to a specific place, the political framework, the war and post-war situation in B&H and more widely also distinctly includes the role of women and the female body. She is not afraid to be engaged with even the most traumatic issues of the space she comes from. Her work presents an un-bribable political agenda and she succeeds in translating and transmitting local realities and experiences in a universal code that is comprehensible to an international audience.

Projectinfo

My focus during the residency stay will be to conduct an empirical research connected with the Ghost Gun project and the handgun Browning (FN) M1910 in particular. Residence in Vienna would provide me a unique opportunity to continue working towards further understanding and deconstruction of this subject. Moreover, the handgun Browning (FN) M1910 is on display at Museum of Military History, Vienna, Hall V – Franz Joseph Hall and Sarajevo (1867–1914) which is a great chance for field research and entering in the next stage of the development of the project. Nevertheless it is an ideal opportunity to establish contact with Museum of Military History, Vienna in order to provide with my intentions related with the project.
My intention is to deploy 3D technologies, to scan physical objects – Handgun Browning (FN) M1910, caliber. 380 ACP (9 mm Kurz) serial number 19074 by using advanced 3D scanning equipment to capture and transform it into the 3D digital model. After the stage of 3D scanning stage, the data, previously collected with 3D scanning procedure, will be used for further steps of 3D printing of first pistol 1:1 replica. In addition, data of the 3D model pistol provide me material for different artistic purposes such as making an animation or visualization. It can also be used to make design changes, to make a new product or to perform dimensional and comparative analysis of an object. Data can be used for archival purposes - to accurately record the state or form of an object.
