With interests in technology and the absurd, Dan and Anika join forces as performers, engineers, and futurists in the creation of a cocktail robot. Dan combines live musical performance techniques with experimental electronics and software. Anika builds temporary structures and moving sculptures often inspired by artifacts, material and space.

Anika Hirt
is an artist from Hamburg, Germany with many homes, currently discovering the peculiar golden McNuggets of the promised land. Her works cover different types of media including interactive or reactive installations, moving sculptures and sometimes video and visualisations creating a moment of surprise and possibly confusion. The transformation of objects, machines and spaces is a common factor.
Anika studied Media and Computing at the University for Applied Sciences in Berlin and Interface Cultures at the Art University Linz in Austria. Her works have been exhibited at Ars Electronica, the Venice Biennial for Architecture, the Santralistanbul museum of modern art, and at festivals like 5- Days-off and Lab30. She has previously worked for the Ars Electronica Festival and for the Frank-Ratchye Studio for Creative Inquiry at Carnegie Mellon University as Artist Research Associate and spent 2 years withe the Carnegie Museum of Pittsburgh working as Digital Innovation Specialist.

Dan Wilcox is an artist, engineer, musician, & performer who combines live musical performance techniques with experimental electronics and software for the exploration of new expression, often through themes of science fiction, space travel, cyborgification, and far futurism. His father was an aerospace engineer, he grew up in the Rocket City, and has performed in Europe and around the US with his one man band cyborg performance project, robotcowboy.
Dan currently lives in Denver, CO USA and is the 2015-17 Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor at the University of Denver's Emergent Digital Practices Program.

Auto Cucumber (auto correct) - A friendly bartender for the roböexotica that misunderstands you. Text your order and get what you didn’t want. The robot will mix you a cocktail - or noncocktail. The more cocktails are ordered the more the bartender misunderstands and will make mistakes.


We were in the middle of beautiful Vienna and, at the same time, could shut ourselves up into our own ideas and work, only emerging now and then to soak up the sights and sounds of the city. There was plenty of space to build our cocktail robot, entitled "Trust Me", for Roböxotica 2016 and share ideas with friends and our sponsors, the monochrom artist collective.
Anika came in early November and was able to meet with the other AiR artists, engage in studio visits, and set up one of her inflatable sculptures as part of an event at the MQ for the Vienna Art Week with the topic "Seeking Beauty". Dan joined Anika in late November and the robot was completed for the festival in the second week of December. After a busy and long weekend mixing cocktails at the Roböxotica we still had time to explore Vienna and the many museums, the Christmas markets, imperial Vienna and the Winterzeit. The residency was an intensive work session and inspiration for future works.
