October 2015 - November 2015Patrick Hough (b.1989, Galway, Ireland) is an artist whose work incorporates moving image, photography and installation to examine how history is constructed and represented in the present. His most recent body of work uses an archive of historical film props to explore how the cinematic image is indelibly embedded in our perception of history. He received his BA in Fine Art Media from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin in 2011 and his MA in Fine Art Photography from the Royal College of Art, London in 2013.

My research will explore how digital technology is influencing our relationship history, how the past is being rewritten to shape a new future.
With major museums now responding to technological shifts and undertaking the process of digitising large swathes of their collections through 3d scanning, never before has human history been more accessible and yet more detached and distanced. Parallel to this, cinema, the dominant medium for the dissemination of historical representations is shifting from using physical film props towards embracing digital 3D CGI artefacts, often composites of these readily available museum 3D models.
Working with a selection of pre-existing 3D scans of objects taken from Museum websites, along with digital film props scanned in London I developing a new Computer Generated Imagery film that engages with both the possibilities and limitations of digital technologies for historical experience.
