Projectinfo

Exhibition at SCHAURAUM Angewandte curated by Işin Önol and Wolfgang Fiel as part of the MQ Summer of Sounds and the exhibition Connecting Sound Etc. Cable Works, Cable Sounds, Cables Everywhere at freiraum quartier21 INTERNATIONAL.

Documentation

I was a resident at the MuseumsQuartier for one month during June 2014. I was invited by Isin Önol, the guest curator of the SCHAURAUM Angewandte at the MuseumsQuartier, with the opportunity to create new work to be exhibited there, in connection with the larger exhibition project "Connecting Sound Etc. Cable Sounds, Cable Works, Cables Everywhere" curated by Georg Weckwerth.

During my residency I created a new installation called "Stroke" specifically for the Schauraum, with the support of the Digital Arts Department at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the Schauraum curators Wolfgang Fiel & Ruth Schnell. The piece consisted of large linear motors equipped with different objects such as a cleaning brush, a plunger, a window squeegee and a garden rake attached to their tips, leaning against the glass window, towards to viewer outside and performing a back-and-forth movement on the glass surface. The sounds that resulted from the interaction of objects with glass were amplified and could be heard through the loudspeakers just outside the glass window. The exhibition was also within the framework of MQ Summer of Sounds 2014.

It was a busy time since I had to prepare an exhibition from scratch in a one month. At the end, it turned out to be very fruitful. It was a nice opportunity to have the convenience to live and spend time in a very central part of Vienna, surrounded by many arts and culture events. Overall, it was a great experience to be a resident artist at MQ.
