Severe droughts, wildfires, record temperatures and heat-related deaths – yet another summer has starkly highlighted the effects of climate change. Yet the government is embroiled in disputes and delays, even though swift and concrete action is needed. The construction and property sector must make a significant contribution to reducing CO₂ emissions. Planning has a key role to play in this. How do we make the leap to climate-neutral environmental design and regenerative architecture?
3XN/GXN, based in Copenhagen, combines architecture, research, and design to develop circular and regenerative solutions for construction projects. In his presentation, “The Resourceful Leap—Regenerative Architecture Through Local Resources and Collective Knowledge,” Aleksander Guldager Kongshaug of GXN will discuss GXN’s current projects focused on CO2 reduction, circular renovation, and the use of vacant properties for affordable housing. He will also discuss how, in Denmark, concrete solutions were developed through collective dialogue, and how joint efforts successfully exerted pressure on policymakers to implement these solutions and achieve climate goals.
The idea of the agora—of shared exchange—has been part of the MuseumQuartier’s concept from the very beginning (see also the exhibition “Vision & Resistance” at Freiraum, marking the 25th anniversary). That is why we also invited HABITAT2030 (Katharina Kothmiller-Chorherr, Markus Zilker), ig-architektur (Fabian Wallmüller), and Architects For Future (Christian Stelzer) to the Libelle at the MQ. After all, these institutions are also strongly committed to climate-neutral construction. How can we succeed together in making the creative leap toward climate-neutral environmental design?
