The MuseumsQuartier Wien is a vibrant hub for art in public spaces. Throughout the entire complex, temporary outdoor exhibitions are on display. These projects address current artistic, social and political issues and bring contemporary art to life for all visitors to the MQ.

Eva Schlegel: MQ Libelle ‘Veiled’

The glass surface of the MQ Libelle is covered by an abstract motif of a billowing silk scarf. The interweaving of 2.4 million shimmering dots offers sweeping views across the city.

Lois Weinberger: Liftturm: I-weed, YOU-weed

The idea for the work comes from a book on plants: henbane seeds could cover the earth in five years. He combines ‘henbane’ (Ichkraut, Dukraut, …) with the English word ‘weed’ (to weed/weed) – a call to action: ‘Weed yourselves!’

Brigitte Kowanz’s three monumental circles of light on the MQ Libelle are visible from afar and change as the day and night progress.

herman de vries: Stone Engravings

Herman de Vries has installed three of his golden ‘spatial points’ in the outdoor area. They invite visitors to view reality from a very specific perspective.

Bruce Nauman: Audio-Video Underground Chamber

The installation consists of a buried concrete chamber fitted with a camera and microphone, the silent live feed from which is transmitted to the mumok. It explores themes of interior and exterior, isolation and claustrophobic conditions.
