As part of "Hof Kunst Fest", which is being held to mark the 25th anniversary of the MuseumsQuartier, artist Christoph Meier and Kunsthalle Wien invite everyone who lives, works or spends time at the MQ to join in ringing his bell Untitled (C#). The bell is part of the current exhibition Lebt und Arbeitet in Wien: Contemporary Art from Vienna at Kunsthalle Wien and is installed at the rear entrance of the building – a spot that many in the MQ know as a passageway, meeting place or smoking area. To mark the MQ’s 25th anniversary, we want to ring it every 25 minutes past the hour – at 5:25 pm, 6:25 pm, 7:25 pm, 8:25 pm and 9:25 pm.

The 25 past initiative stems from the artist’s suggestion to ring his Untitled (C#) 25 minutes past the hour on the anniversary, thereby disrupting the city’s usual rhythm. Tuned to the note Cis, the bell – designed by Meier and cast by the Grassmayr bell foundry in Innsbruck – references the C of St. Stephen’s Cathedral’s Pummerin, yet at the same time deliberately distinguishes itself from it. On July 2, the city’s familiar sound will thus shift by a nuance and with it the usual rhythm of work, breaks and encounters at the MQ.

We look forward to welcoming many bell-ringers, listeners, smokers and nonsmokers – always at 25 minutes past the hour!

Free admission.
