Juli 2021 - Juli 2021JESSICA MAHER is an emerging English artist and curator working artistically in disciplines of abstract expressionism and contemporary installation. Curatorially, her focus is based on art theory criticism, political discourse with reference to art representation and the art phenomena. She achieved her Fine Art degree at Lancaster University and at present is working towards her masters in contemporary curating at Manchester Metropolitan University, and working among fellow postgraduates in conducting independent exhibitions.
Research as part of this residency will work towards exploring the notion of ‘Difficult knowledge’ through the dissection of art and curatorial practices. This project explores in depth the meaning of freedom of expression in its entirety, from the ethics of what one calls ‘difficult’ and the portrayal of ‘knowledge’ through abstract semantic representation. The research explores the lack of discussion and representation concerning difficult knowledge and the absence of tolerance, critical thinking and debate among art and curatorial practices within reference to politics.
