Projektinfo

“open thread :: wien” is a generative fashion collection which is based on data
obtained in Vienna and using the Wiener Werkstätte as an aesthetic point of departure in the inspiration of the collection. The collection’s textile prints will be created through generative code. The code will combine data that is mined from Vienna in conjunction with inspiration from the fashion and textiles of the Wiener Werkstätte.
The Wiener Werkstätte (production community of progressive artists and designers) was established in 1903 and was committed to designing art that would be accessible to everyone (precursor to open design). The entire collection created in Vienna will be released open source.
The research will trace the Viennese roots of the art movement within some of the amazing archives located in Vienna, including Universität für angewandte Kunst. ase of the collection through creative commons licensing. The patterns will be released online for history, essentially furthering truly interactive experience, where the consumer is an active participant and actually becomes the producer.
The theme of this particular collection is open thread and has a similar principal than the Wiener Werkstätte: Better to work 10 days on one product than to manufacture 10 products in one day. The imagery for the textile prints would be generated through software - data mined information from Vienna and inspired by the Wiener Werkstätte.
The entire collection created in Vienna will be released open source, the designs as well as the textile patterns. One of each design will be locally sourced, cut and produced. The collection will be under the label: antisocial butterfly (collaborative name of Margarita Benitez and Markus Vogl). The collection will be created on the antisocial butterfly manifest the producer is the consumer; fashion can be obtained either open source or on demand; objects can be obtained either open source or on demand.
