The invitation of BMaA to stay for one month in the Museumsquartier studios was a great honour and having this time to devote only to my art projects was a perfect opportunity for me to start a new project.
I started a series of text-based interviews with (mostly) visual artists on their living and working conditions. I will continue with these interviews in other parts of the world, where the ways are taking me on. This will become a collection of very personal experiences, how artists fight for their survival in different parts of the world; in what ways the situations are similar and in what ways different. In Vienna I conducted more than 30 interviews with Austrian and some foreign artists. Apart from this it was informative and inspiring to meet with responsibles from IG Bildende Kunst and IG Kultur and understand how the freelance life of cultural producers is organised in Austria and visit the commercial and non-comercial galleries.
Living for the first time in Vienna so much in the center of cultural life was ideal to just explore the Viennese scene also outside the now-so-well-known-walls of MQ. My stay was very productive and I cherish this time very much which is why I hope the program of resident artists will continue and that many more slovenian artists get the chance to work for some time without daily worries and get to know the art in todays Vienna.
