The goal of working at quartier21 is to examine the duality between public and private places. I want to work around the idea of transitory places, like cinemas, shop windows, hotels and coffee houses; where life is temporary, where people don't stay longer time.
My focus in the work is photographing the moment where private time and the public place converge, this kind of transitional moment, which is a mix between dreams, personal desires and social realities. This is not only a formal rapprochement but also an investigation into the perception of the contemporary city, kind of alienated spaces where people have a private and momentary experience.
The photos will develop in the urban area from Vienna, which is a perfect background, because the style of the kind of places that I am interested in this city are surrounded by an aura of classical and modern style, that gives a dramatic ambient, a cinematographic backdrop where reality blends with fiction.
During my Residence at quartier21 I was working around the idea of transitoriness or impermanence: about transitory places and about transitory circumstances.
As a part of my project, I made photo-performances in old Viennese Cinemas: places where life is temporary, where people don’t stay longer time, without an identity by itself. A kind of Non-places. Here, I show the first of one of the series that I did during my residence: in the building of Metro-Kino, in downtown. Right now, a closed building that is being renovated.
