Between exhibition rooms and studios, the MuseumsQuartier reveals itself as a place where art is not only presented but also produced. This tour combines insights into current exhibitions with encounters with artists-in-residence, revealing how contemporary art is created, conceived, and discussed at the MQ.

This tour takes you through the MuseumsQuartier, a production site for contemporary art, and provides insights into current exhibitions as well as the life and work of the artists in residence. As an international art and creative space, the MQ has always seen itself as a place where social, political, and ecological issues are discussed.

Since 2002, around 60 international artists have been living and working at the MQ each year as part of the Artist-in-Residence Program. They come from fields such as fine arts, architecture, design, literature, music, film, and media art, and use the MQ as a temporary workspace and think tank.

During the tour, you will meet selected current residents in person in their studios. In direct conversation, they will provide insight into their projects, working methods, and questions, and talk about their time at the MQ. The encounter creates space for open exchange and allows direct access to artistic processes — beyond finished works and classic exhibition situations.
