What can architecture do? As one of the world's leading architecture museums, the Architekturzentrum Wien (Az W) shows and discusses how architecture shapes the daily lives of people around the globe.

Through international thematic expositions and the permanent exhibition Hot Questions – Cold Storage on 20th- and 21st-century Austrian architecture, the Az W focuses on the urgent issues of our time. A diverse program of events and educational activities, including debates, symposia, and hands-on workshops, invites visitors to discover architecture from different perspectives. In addition, the Az W offers tailored excursions for international groups, programs for schools, and inclusive formats.

Since its founding in 1993, Austria's only architecture museum has consistently explored the social dimension of architecture: How fairly is space distributed? How do we want to live together? How do we deal with finite resources? Planetary and feminist perspectives, as well as a look behind the scenes, reveal how architecture impacts our lives. What can architecture do? This question concerns us all.

The Az W features the most comprehensive collection on Austrian architecture of the 20th and 21st centuries and has established itself internationally as a leading center for education and research: with over 100 estates and holdings of Austrian architects, an object database, photographic archives, the online Encyclopedia of Architects, and a reference library with over 70,000 books and journals. The Az W Research Center in the collection depot and the Az W Virtual Collection make Austrian architectural history accessible to researchers and experienceable for an interested public worldwide.
