As part of the ImPulsTanz Festival, Public Moves offers free outdoor dance and movement classes every day on the MQ forecourt (main courtyard) of the MuseumsQuartier. These classes, which are also suitable for beginners, are led by various international instructors who teach styles ranging from hip-hop to contemporary jazz.
With “Here and Now”, Public Moves invites participants into a playful and intuitive exploration of the rhythms within the body. We move to individual and shared rhythms, sometimes sustaining several at once and sometimes meeting one another through call-and-response patterns rooted in dance styles of the African diaspora. We also play with the seeming absence of rhythm: exploring flowing movements beyond clear accents, syncopation and metre, and noticing how rhythm continues to emerge. Through movement, listening and interaction with the music, we explore rhythm as conversation, connection and expression.
