MQ Forecourt

As part of the ImPulsTanz Festival, Public Moves offers free outdoor dance and movement classes every day on the MQ forecourt (main courtyard) of the MuseumsQuartier. These classes, which are also suitable for beginners, are led by various international instructors who teach styles ranging from hip-hop to contemporary jazz.

Public Moves, led by Cecily Campbell, explores Trisha Brown’s ideas about movement. From her early days as a choreographer at the Judson Dance Theater, Trisha Brown was fascinated by the endless possibilities for shaping movement, as well as by structure and form. Lining up, staying on the edge, appearing and disappearing, keeping it simple, and following instincts: In this class led by the company’s rehearsal director—Cecily Campbell—five tasks from Trisha Brown’s “Set and Reset are explored through movement, imagination, and play. In true Trisha Brown spirit, participants dance on the boundary between choreography and play, discovering when they are visible, when they have disappeared, and when they should rejoin the action.
