Open-Air Movie Theater at the MQ
frame[o]ut
Frameout showcases innovative contemporary cinema, with each year’s programme centred around a specific theme. In 2026, Frameout will take place in the summery setting of the MuseumsQuartier Wien, with the theme ‘Confrontation’.
Confrontation gives rise to the unexpected. On the one hand, positions, factions and sides become clear. On the other hand, the outcome of a confrontation can foster a sense of unity; perhaps creating an echo and opening up spaces for resonance.
What kinds of content, viewpoints and images do we want to confront ourselves and one another with – at open-air cinemas, on the streets, in politics? What potential does film have to challenge prevailing power structures? And what strategies are there for removing the ‘front’ from the confrontation and approaching problems from the side, from below or diagonally?
This year’s frame[o]ut invites you to engage with, challenge and build upon innovative film programmes.
In cooperation and co-production with the MuseumsQuartier Wien. Funded by Film and New Media / Wien Kultur, Department of Cinematic Arts / BMKÖS and VdFs: Collecting Society for Filmmakers.
