frame[o]ut showcases innovative contemporary cinema, with a different theme each year.
Where differences meet, friction emerges. It slows things down, shifts perspectives, creates resistance – yet at the same time sets something in motion. As friction arises between positions, viewpoints, factions, and ways of seeing, their contours become more distinct even as they begin to move closer together.
In this sense, friction can also foster connection, leaving a lasting resonance and opening up new spaces for dialogue.What kinds of friction do we encounter—in the open-air cinema, on the streets, in politics? Which forms do we seek out, and which do we avoid? What begins to move when certainties collide, when images no longer confirm what we know but instead unsettle and challenge us?
This year's frame[o]ut invites audiences to embrace friction not as a disruption, but as a point of departure: for critical engagement, for shifts in perspective, and for ways of being together that do not depend on consensus.In cooperation and co-production with MuseumsQuartier Wien.
