Concert | Teresa Rotschopf, Currents and Orders
Inside the Exhibition “Tobias Pils. Shh“
Teresa Rotschopf will perform her solo album “Currents and Orders” at the exhibition “Tobias Pils. Shh.”
The lives and work of composer and musician Teresa Rotschopf and painter Tobias Pils are closely intertwined. While Rotschopf was working on her second solo album, “Currents and Orders“ (2025, label: Martin Hossbach), a series of very intimate paintings emerged in Pils’ studio; these are currently on view on the ground floor of his mumok exhibition. The closeness between these two individuals and their artistic practices gave rise to the idea for an extraordinary event: a live performance of the album tracks in the midst of the exhibition, which Rotschopf is realizing together with musicians Alex Kranabetter and Alex Yannilos, and in which her sonic compositions and Pils’ visual universe come together publicly for the first time.
In this context, mumok becomes an acoustic stage that resonates in a unique way with the unusual location where Rotschopf’s album was created: “Currents and Orders” was recorded in June 2023 in a stalactite cave in Styria—deep underground, far from daylight, yet all the closer to archaic sounds and resonances. For Rotschopf, this unique recording situation represented an expedition into a space of timeless order that contrasts the fast-paced nature of our present with an older logic: “What we did in the cave could be called “recording music,“ but just as easily “remembering.“ (…) My greatest wish is to sing all the way to the depths of the universe.”
Musicians:
Teresa Rotschopf (vocals, electronics, synths)
Alex Kranabetter (trumpet, synths, effects)
Alex Yannilos (drums, synths, effects)
Duration: approx. 40 minutes
