The video “Pietá” mourns the children killed in wars and other politically driven acts of violence, as well as the fate of surviving mothers.

The title “Pietà” alludes to a classic subject in European art history: Saint Mary weeping over the body of her dead son, Jesus. In the video, sparse visual elements evoke this situation of extreme suffering: a child's shirt, the four seasons of a cherry tree, and a pair of hands.

The Vienna-based artist duo Time Gates (Dorothee Frank & Ben G. Fodor) creates novel cross-media formats such as performances and installations using photography, video, sculptural objects, literary texts (also their own), live drawing and painting, as well as original music by composers and sound art.
