Locked away in her childhood bedroom, Iphigenia awaits her execution. In several attempts, she tries to tell us her story and how it all came to this: it all began with her great-great-grandfather Tantalus and a family curse. Two generations later, following the supposed abduction of Helen, her father Agamemnon instigates the Trojan War and incurs the wrath of the goddess Artemis. According to the seer Calchas, Artemis’ wrath can only be appeased if Agamemnon sacrifices his daughter Iphigenia. And that is precisely what is about to happen.

While in captivity, Iphigenia searches for ways to avert her fate. Can she soften her father’s heart? Can the masses outside the dungeon be rallied to start a revolution? Is there a way out of a narrative that sees women only as victims, saints or witches? Who is Iphigenia beyond patriarchal myths and imposed identities?

Actress and author Lilly-Marie Vogler tears down the veil of ancient myth and opens a new, feminist chapter in its 2,400-year history of interpretation. In doing so, she examines portrayals of women, comments on the expectations and attributions of patriarchy, and mercilessly settles scores with a male-dominated world.
