HOW IS YOUR BIRD? – Zappa for anarchists of all ages

Musical theatre | ages 8 and over

Six musicians stand in a semicircle on stage with their instruments. In the centre of the stage, a woman in a white lab coat is sitting at a laboratory table. The set consists of metal shelves and resembles a garage filled with useful and forgotten items. A large screen hangs in the background.

With a mix of music, puppet and object theatre, live comic strips and radio plays, we ‘channel-hop’ our way through the body of work of the 1970s’ enfant terrible. At the heart of the plot is a young person who gathers his allies in a sort of garage (“Joe’s Garage”) to literally turn everything upside down and turn night into day.

With a mix of music, puppetry and love, meddling parents are put in their place, UFOs are directed to the right landing spot, a ‘time-wasting’ dance is performed, cabbages are examined and desserts are invented, all so that in the end the moon – which has wriggled free from Earth’s grip – can be guided back into its proper orbit.

This musical theatre production for children is a tale of independence, originality and wit. It tells the story of a free spirit who imaginatively builds a world of their own. It serves both as a guide and a source of encouragement.

Joining the multi-talented members of the Studio Dan ensemble are Karolina Preuschl (from Wien Diesel; aka MC Rhine) as a puppeteer and lyricist, and Robert “Slivo” Slivovsky from the 5/8erln in Ehrʼn as a singer, dancer and performer.

“Studio Dan” comes from “Studio Tan”, and that title, in turn, comes from Frank Zappa. So it’s FZ again and again, and this time for children too.
