FESTIVAL OF THEATRE WORKSHOPS | Catwalk for Future

Sylvi Kretzschmar | DSCHUNGEL WIEN | Musical theatre + performance | Ages 14 and over

Eight young people have gathered for a photo: they are holding clothes hangers and have a puzzled look on their faces – fitting for the theme of how our clothes are made.

Originally, “catwalk“ was a term used to describe narrow walkways or bridges on building sites and in shipyards. Workers would walk along these walkways at dizzying heights, unsecured and carrying heavy loads.

Who is threatened by the fashion runways we know today as catwalks? Under what circumstances do the clothes we wear come into being? And what happens to them once we’ve discarded them? What journeys have our trainers been on, and where will they go? What would a T-shirt tell us if it could speak?

Through their own music, sounds, lyrics and rap verses, the performers find answers to these questions. CATWALK FOR FUTURE combines live art and live music on the catwalk. This concert-performance is a trial run to explore whether and how fashion can serve as a medium of transformation, bringing ideas into the world and expressing visions of the future.

On Saturday 16 May, the participants in the theatre workshop will present their work as part of the FESTIVAL OF THEATRE WORKSHOPS. The production’s premiere will take place on Saturday 20 June. The final performance will be part of the WILD & SCHÖN FESTIVAL.
