The MuseumsQuartier is celebrating 25 years of the MQ with a series of anniversary events: With free admission, everyone is invited to join in the celebration and experience the MQ as a place of openness and diversity. Starting with the family festival “30 Years of Ö1 Club x 25 Years of MQ” (June 28), followed by the Open House at MQ Freiraum featuring the anniversary exhibition “Vision and Resistance—How the MuseumsQuartier Changed Vienna” (June 30) to the Hof Kunst Fest (July 2), the highlight of the 25th-anniversary celebrations.
At the family festival on June 28, starting at 12:00, in cooperation with Ö1, visitors can look forward to a diverse range of art and cultural offerings in the buildings and courtyards, as well as exclusive Ö1 broadcasts live from the MQ. The stage program will provide entertainment well into the evening.
With an open house on June 30, 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., the MQ invites you to the MQ Freiraum with free admission to discover the anniversary exhibition “Vision and Resistance – How the MuseumsQuartier Changed Vienna.” The exhibition tells the story of the MQ and looks back on the largest cultural construction project of the Second Republic. Amid bold designs, political debates, architectural visions, and a project that repeatedly teetered on the brink of failure, sketches, architectural models, plans, historical documents, newspaper reports, and headlines bring to life just how intensely the struggle for today’s MQ was fought. At both 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., visitors can gain fascinating insights during an exclusive guided tour.
The highlight of the festivities will be the Hof Kunst Fest on July 2, starting at 6:00 p.m. The MQ is bringing back highlights from its 25-year history and celebrating a special anniversary evening together with visitors, artists, and the MQ institutions—Kunsthalle Wien, the Leopold Museum, mumok, Tanzquartier Wien, and O-TÖNEN. Performers include Doris Uhlich, UCHE YARA, Dimitré Dinev & Band, Matt McCreary & Charles Auguste, Tutti Dilemma, Christoph Meier, and Peter Sandbichler.
