Oxana Jguirovskaia
Key Facts
Oxana Jguirovskaia is an independent curator and critic of Belarusian contemporary art. She graduated from European Humanity University (Lithuania). She is head and lecture of department “Contemporary art studies“ at ECLAB (independent Liberal Arts College in Minsk).
She was awarded The Grand Crix at Competition of curators, Minsk (2010). Primary research interest: public art, autobiography art, social aspect in contemporary art. Oxana is the first Belarusian curator who organized a large project of contemporary Belarusian art in Minsk “Radius of Zero. Art Ontology of art-zero“ (2010-2013). The project consisted of research and exhibition parts, after which she was one of the editors of the first book about Belarusian contemporary art.
She prefers to be independent and do not belong to any art institutions in her work. The field of her activity and research is the creation of expositions with a critical element, the formulation of painful or hidden issues that lie in the sphere of social, cultural and institutional criticism of Belarusian society and art. Oxana likes to work in collaboration with various researchers, philosophers, sociologists, historians. She believes that this allows you to create more relevant and versatile projects.
Project info
During her residence in Vienna Oxana is writing an article “Peculiarities of Disproportion and Critical Position in Art Criticism and Journalism of Belarus“. In it she analyzes and explores the relationship between critical discourse and the social, cultural, and political situation in the country.
