Originally trained as a social and educational psychologist, Dillon is a self-taught artist and curator. Drawing on methodologies from psychology, social science and the performing arts, including 'fake rap' she creates performative situations, visual and sound-based works and exhibitions, which comment on our cybernetic attachments and the influence of techno-civic systems on our everyday lives and personal relationships. Her work has been exhibited and presented internationally for example at Transmediale (2014), ISEA (2013), Ars Electronica (2012), Science Gallery, Dublin (2011, 2012) and Pixelache (2008). Since 2005 she has curated various art, media and science based programmes, including OFFLOAD, Systems for Survival, Bristol (2005), UM Festival Lisbon, Dublin and Oporto (2008-2011) and HACK-THE-CITY, (2012) for the Science Gallery, Dublin. She has taught at Cambridge University, Trinity College Dublin and Bristol  niversity and worked as a designer, producer and researcher for various public sector for  organisations such as NESTA, UK and BBC. She has written extensively on topics such as creativity and life-long learning, open source education, techno-civic agendas and more recently on critical sound exploration. Recent projects include the talks and workshop programme Urban Knights (ongoing), which focuses on promoting disruptive civic practices, the exhibition YOU MIGHT BE A DOG at LEAP, Berlin (2014) which addressed the nature of the 'broadcasted' self online and the associated visual piece ADIP (2014) and Superglue (2014) a set of open source web tools, which allow you to create your own websites and run them from a mini-server, installed in your home. In 2014 she has been honored with a Humboldt Fellowship for Experienced Researchers and in the coming two years will spend an extensive period of time in Berlin, developing a body of new work, which focuses on noise, city governance and critical design at the Universität der Künste and Technischen Universität, Berlin.

Projektinfo

For the quater21 residency, I will be focusing on researching and designing the objects for a new performative piece, helping to establish Urban Knights in Vienna and working with local curators on developing a new academic journal.
