In my artistic work I primarily deal with specific geographical and historical characteristics of the place. I address the issue of reviving the genius loci of abandoned and lost structures by manipulation of the visitor using ephemeral artistic interventions. Using a language of contemporary art I try to reflect an alarming state of the local monuments of modern architecture.
During my residency I would like to focus on my long term project, which deals with the issue of derelict, abandoned or endangered architecture of the 20th century and its possible preservation by means of artistic interventions and alternative forms of protesting. I try to find an answer to the question whether art and art activism can achieve any change in this respect.
The residency in MQ was for me very productive in one side and relaxing on the other. I had all I needed to work and to be focused on my actual projects. The living space was so comfortable for me that sometimes I forgot to go out the whole day.
During one month I was working on a screenplay for a planned documentary movie about one of the most important modernist buildings in Slovakia: Sanatorium Machnáč and I was working with archives of Jaromir Krejcar, architect of this object. I already made a big research in archives in Prague during my previous residency there and in Vienna I got time to work with this material, to classify it and forward it for possibly a new project.
Vienna and MQ get great opportunity to visit a lot of galleries and museums, there is a great architecture library in Architecture centrum and in ERSTE Stiftung, too. During my stay in Vienna I was lucky that started two "festivals" of art: Month of Photography and Curated by, so I could visit them and meet a lot of interesting people there.
Very inspired on residency in MQ is the fact, that there is more artists together and especially that there are people from different fields of art.
I didn´t have a presentation of my work in Vienna but hopefully I will have a presentation in next month in f.e.a forum experimentelle architektur in MQ.
