August 2017 - September 2017Frida Robles is an essayist-artist; she observes the traces that people leave in public spaces and then diffracts them back into the same space. She does this through text, performance, images and moving pictures. For example: in order to learn more about love, Frida went into a public square in Mexico City and listened to people’s love stories, channeled their emotions and translated them into love letters. She holds a bachelor degree in History (Iberoamericana University) and a master’s degree from the University of Applied Arts Vienna.

There is an overflowing imaginary from different underworlds originated in different cultures throughout the world. A rite of passage, a judgement ritual, a waging of the souls. The apocalypse is the time when the moon was bloody and the stars fell like leaves, where the sky was no longer there. For the Aztecs, the Mictlan was the other world, a nine-level cosmos where dogs were there to guide you. The guardian of the Mictlan was Mictlantecuhtli which was always associated with bats, spiders and owls, all creatures of the night.
This project will result in an installation where some of these images will be reinterpreted in visual and spoken formats, as a reflection of the connection between punishment and justice. As Foucault would assert, the subjected is so by means of belief in the imaginary of the power system to which s/he is subject of. Which are our contemporary imaginaries of punishment, of fear? To which images are we subjects to?
