Tracks of Time and Distance
MQ Artist-in-Residence Camilo Cogua-Rodríguez
Absence and distance become inscribed in time and serve as a catalyst for exploring the boundaries between volumetric animation—a three-dimensional, spatially experiential form of digital moving-image representation—sculpture, and light.
This project explores the temporality of life through an intimate contrast: the perception of a mother’s aging process and a daughter’s childhood. Amid physical distance, these realities are stretched and flattened by screen-mediated images, continually reconfiguring themselves until time inevitably transforms childhood into adulthood and old age into finitude. This is a practice-based research project exploring the gestures through which a child and a parent attempt to bridge distance in order to create closeness.
