Billy Roisz
In the dark corners of the Asifakeils, where walls and floor meet, Billy Roisz weaves an electric spiderweb—a shimmering, electric web of color and light that captivates the viewer and dissolves the boundary between perception and space. The architecture itself becomes a canvas, a resonating surface for a pulsating, ever-changing tapestry of images.
The title “rincÓn“ is a double entendre, referring both to the Spanish word for “corner“ or “nook“ and to the common name for a South American spider species that likes to hide in dark corners to lie in wait for its prey.
Billy Roisz is a filmmaker, musician, and artist. As a self-taught artist, she sees the extremely open DIY environment of the digital and analog electronics and noise scene in Vienna during the Y2K transition as the fertile ground for her creativity. She has been working with video and sound since 1998. The aesthetics of image and sound distortion—such as feedback and distortion—are among her central areas of experimentation, while the intertwining and repurposing of image- and sound-generating instruments form the basis of her technical approach. Her artistic practice typically takes the form of live audiovisual performances, concerts, video works, and spatial installations.
