Birke Gorm’s work is characterised by an intensive engagement with material, labour and social structures. For her sculptures and installations, she uses simple, rural materials such as jute, raw wood and stones. She also integrates found, weathered or shiny metal remnants: discarded objects and leftovers from consumer and industrial society, such as old nails, chains, can tops, metal sheets and screws. Material collection is a fundamental and continuous part of her artistic practice. Gorm also draws on this specific pool of materials for her installation terms and conditions at MQ Art Box.
