more than naked
Hardly anyone embodies nudity free from ideology and provocation quite like Doris Uhlich. And her hit performance “more than naked” is a prime example of this: the emancipation of the body from judgmental gazes, beauty ideals, and prescribed roles.
In “more than naked” (2013), 20 naked dancers shake, snap, and soar. Their bodies clap against one another, sweat, and crash – set to everything from dancefloor hits to baroque sounds. Twenty people on stage are more than just a group – they are a society. And this society sets itself in motion. Doris Uhlich stands on stage as a DJ, fully embracing the motto: “Let’s party our body!” The body is not degraded into an object but understood as a physical entity, shown in all its fragility. “more than naked” explores discourses on the body and, in an immensely subversive way, shatters conventional notions of the body, dance, and nudity.

With “BOOM TSCHAK: 20 Years of Doris Uhlich,” Tanzquartier Wien dedicates a major retrospective to the local icon and internationally celebrated choreographer from 5 November to 5 December, spanning radical body art, dance, sound and excess.
