In conversation with curator Astrid Peterle (MuseumsQuartier), the artist discusses his concept for the MQ Art Box and his intervention in the current MQ Freiraum exhibition “Vision and Resistance: How the MuseumsQuartier Vienna Changed.” Following the conversation, visitors can engage in a dialogue with the artist and the curator right at the MQ Art Box. With *Freigang*, Aldo Giannotti creates a powerful effect using seemingly minimal means: for the first time, a corridor allows visitors to walk right through the MQ Art Box. The installation thus focuses not on observation but on active engagement and participation—walking through the corridor becomes the artwork itself. This temporary reconfiguration of the MQ Art Box is consistent with Giannotti’s general artistic practice. For many years, he has been exploring, through drawings and performative installations, how rules and conventions shape our behavior in public spaces and institutions. Rather than directly challenging them, he subtly shifts them. Through these subtle and often humorous interventions, the artist challenges notions of how spaces are used, who has access to them, and who is merely meant to observe.
