MQ Book Box: Exhibition catalogs and publications to read and browse through
Since this summer, a new bookcase has been on display in the main courtyard of the MuseumsQuartier, featuring a selection of exhibition catalogs and publications from the MQ institutions. True to the motto “Take one, read it, put it back,” visitors have free access to publications on art and culture.
The MQ Book Box was created as part of a joint open call with Vienna Design Week; the design by the design studio JOYJOY was selected from among the submissions.
The MQ bookcase stands out for its open display design and a consistently sustainable approach to materials. In keeping with the principles of the circular economy, the design primarily uses reused and scrap materials: The foundation consists of offcuts from steel and stone processing as well as recycled wood panels. The design is complemented by doors made of recycled plastic. The integrated seating surfaces, crafted from natural stone scraps, transform the piece into a functional gathering spot in public spaces, inviting people to read and linger right there on the spot.
