ESC Enzis
Enzi art project for the 60th Eurovision Song Contest at the MuseumsQuartier
For the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, 40 pieces of MQ courtyard furniture were designed by 40 Austrian artists. The Enzis were displayed in the MQ main courtyard and were then auctioned off for charity.
As part of the Eurovision Song Contest, the "EUROART im MQ" project was launched at the MuseumsQuartier Wien. Forty Austrian artists each designed a piece of MQ courtyard furniture, focusing on one of the participating ESC countries. The Enzis were displayed in the MQ main courtyard for two weeks, bringing international pop culture to the public eye.
The furniture design combined contemporary art with the ESC as a Europe-wide cultural event. Visitors could not only view the Enzis, but also use them as usual — art as part of everyday life in the MuseumsQuartier.
The furniture was then publicly auctioned off in the main courtyard of the MQ. The proceeds from the auction went to the Neighbor in Need relief effort and supported earthquake victims in Nepal. Individual Enzis were held back for a later auction as part of Licht ins Dunkel.
The ESC Enzis show how the MuseumsQuartier takes up major international events and translates them into urban space — in an accessible, visible way and with social added value.
