Anila Spahiu

Anila Spahiu, born in 1998 in Prishtina, Kosovo, is a visual artist whose practice extends into research and curatorial practice.
She works primarily with photography, video, and installation, exploring light, space, and perception through a phenomenological lens. She often focuses on silence, stillness, and the emotional weight of spatial experience.
Spahiu has completed a Master’s degree in Contemporary Visual Practices at the Academy of Visual Arts in Ljubljana. She has worked with institutions such as the International Centre of Graphic Arts (MGLC), Cukrarna Gallery, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova (MSUM) in Ljubljana. In 2023, she was part of the team behind the 35th Ljubljana Graphic Biennale. The artist also participated in programs at Stacion – Center for Contemporary Art and Foundation 17.
Anila Spahius recent solo exhibition, Ethereal Void, was presented in Ljubljana at AVA gallery. She is also currently developing a research-based project on Albanian dowry traditions, combining archival materials, photography, and personal narratives.

Anila Spahiu is a scholarship holder of the “Fokus International“ program, which was launched in cooperation with the Austrian Ministry of Culture (BMWKMS) in 2023. Young cultural workers from Kosovo (2023 - 2025) and South Africa (2025 - 2027) are invited to Austria to complete two-month internships at selected Viennese art institutions, thereby gaining work experience and enriching the host institution through their collaboration.During her residency, she will complete a two-month internship at viennacontemporary, while continuing to develop her artistic research. The residency at MQ offers her the opportunity to explore more deeply her ongoing interests in phenomenology, perception, and the Japanese philosophy of Ma, which have long influenced her visual work. This experience also provides an important chance to grow professionally, exchange ideas with the local art scene, and form new connections with artists, curators, and institutions, contributing to both her artistic development and future curatorial path.
