At “THE STASH,“ everything that light and installation artist Martin Markeli has created and collected since 2003 comes together. It is a space that captures the different phases of his artistic exploration and can be understood as an entry point into his imaginative world.

This world includes electric slot-car tracks, miniature figures, and light installations. It is also where ideas emerge that are later carried outward, transforming public space and enabling new experiences between object, people, and space.

On this evening, Martin Markeli not only offers insight into his studio, but also invites visitors to actively engage with his installations. The artist is shaped by the era in which slot-car racing became part of the affluent society of the 1970s, when the automobile evolved into a status symbol for both adults and children alike. The racetrack thus becomes a projection surface for the perception of a society driven by speed and competition. These aspects are reflected in the artist’s object installations.

He presents them within a landscape of fast cars and symbolic figures drawn from consumer culture. The artistic exploration unfolds within the scene — or arena — of motor racing. All senses of the viewers are intended to be stimulated. At the centre is the interaction between artwork and audience, established through a playful approach.
