AWAKE
Šejla Kamerić
Light installation in the MQ Main Courtyard
AWAKE transforms the courtyard of the MuseumsQuartier into a space reminiscent of a vigil. A temporary space for collective reflection emerges, one that eludes simple certainties and fixed narratives. For one evening, we gather as a mindful community to light a candle and reflect on shared vulnerability. This is a call to remembrance and active vigilance.
The MuseumsQuartier presents AWAKE, a new site-specific public light installation by Šejla Kamerić. Kamerić works in an interdisciplinary and cross-border manner; in her politically engaged practice, she explores collective vigilance and civic empathy in times of political crisis. Projects such as EU/Others (2000), Bosnian Girl (2003) and CEASE (2024) have repeatedly transformed public space into a place for reflection on shared responsibility.
Initiated by the MuseumsQuartier Wien and Nomad – The Croatian Office for Contemporary Art in Zagreb, supported by the UNIQA SEE FUTURE Foundation, NOMARTS – Kunstverein zur Schaffung von Kunstsammlungen and the Dr. Éva Kahán Foundation.
