Panel discussion: Viennese Modernism — and the Moral of the Story?

Panel discussion: Viennese Modernism — and the Moral of the Story?

Art and morality is always a subject of heated debate, whether in the context of child abuse and Adolf Loos or anti-Semitism and Otto Wagner. How does knowledge of such matters alter our view of the heroes of modern architecture and how should their work be exhibited in the future?

Archikids Workshop (6–99): Urban Heat

Archikids Workshop (6–99): Urban Heat

The heat in the cities is becoming increasingly problematic. Our guests, the urban climatologists from Weatherpark, explain to us what can be done about it and how we can protect ourselves. In the exhibition ‘Europe’s best buildings’, we also look at some methods of cooling down from other countries. We are interested in both structural measures and climate-friendly behaviour. Why does it make sense to stay in ‘green’ areas or to spend all day in shady places?

Lecture & Response: Lacaton & Vassal Architectes

Lecture & Response: Lacaton & Vassal Architectes

Lacaton & Vassal Architectes, together with Frédéric Druot and Christophe Hutin, renovated three large 1960s apartment buildings in the Cité du Grand Parc in Bordeaux with minimal but effective interventions. The project, with a total of 530 residential units, makes it clear that modern, large-scale post-war housing can be successfully brought into the 21st century for all involved. As number one among ‘Europe’s Best Buildings’, the project is on display in the exhibition of the same title at the Az W.
