In this exhibition at the Leopold Museum, the highlights from six collections of the Vienna Insurance Group will encounter each other for the first time. Despite the collections’ different emphases and evolutions, their works are unknown familiars, as they all hail from compilations gathered by companies belonging to the same family.

Every second and fourth Wednesday of the month, our art education experts take centre stage during the lunchtime tours! They present their favourite artists and themes from the Leopold Collection and the special exhibitions.

The awakening took place in a wide variety of disciplines, from painting and graphic art to literature, music, theater, dance, architecture, medicine, psychology, philosophy, jurisprudence and economics. With around 1,300 exhibits on three levels, the exhibition presents the splendor and richness of the artistic and intellectual achievements of this epoch on the basis of masterpieces from the Leopold Museum and magnificent permanent loans from Austrian and international collections.

Is it always easy to recognise what is depicted in works of art? Do you always find it easy to paint things the way you imagine them? Especially if you don't use brushes or pencils? We explore different artistic techniques in the exhibition and then create our own painting tools in the studio!

In the eighteenth century, the term "revolution" came to designate a "violent overthrow of the existing political and social order," a meaning fixed by the French Revolution. Before that time, astronomers had long used it to describe the orbits of the celestial bodies.

In the fin de siècle, Vienna was a breeding ground for an unprecedentedly fertile intellectual life in the arts and sciences. Every first and third Friday of the month, the series of guided tours is dedicated to a specific theme that reflects the achievements and special features of this era.

The ramifications of World War I called for new depictions of reality in art. The resignation, accusations and indescribable hardship that characterized this time on the one hand, and the hope, longings and emerging zest for life of the "Golden Twenties" on the other, found expression in a new type of art – one that was unsentimental, sober, specific and purist; one that described the world in an objective, realistic manner.
