Talk via Skype

Eyal Weizman studied architecture in London and is head of the Forensic Architecture research unit at Goldsmiths College, University of London.

Initially just a think tank, in 2015 Forensic Architecture, together with an interdisciplinary team, began to transpose its theoretical approaches into the reconstruction of real events. On behalf of human rights organizations, this resulted, for instance, in an acoustic tour of a Syrian torture prison, the reconstruction of the drifting off of a refugee boat in the Mediterranean, or a documentary on secret torture camps in Cameroon in the fight against terror.
Their film "77sqm_9: 26min", a research on the NSU murder of Halit Yozgat, was shown at the last Documenta. Artists, architects, filmmakers, set designers and performers tried to answer the question whether an employee of the Hessian constitutional protection, contrary to his statements, was not a witness of the crime. Forensic Architecture minutely reconstructed the crime scene was on the basis of leaked files and a police video – and an evidence contradicting the official investigation results emerged.
Forensic Architecture is currently nominated for the British Turner Prize – even though Weizman does not necessarily want his work to be understood as art.
