DJ Leon has been a passionate vinyl collector and multi-genre DJ since the early 1990s. He draws inspiration from DJ legends such as Gilles Peterson, Larry Levan, François Kevorkian, and many others. His numerous record-digging trips have taken him to Detroit—his “second home“—as well as to New York, New Orleans, and the suburbs of São Paulo. With relaxed ease, DJ Leon moves through different genres such as Afrobeat, funk, soul, disco, hip-hop, Latin & Brazilian, reggae, and uptempo grooves. In doing so, he not only gets people dancing but also opens his audience’s ears to previously undiscovered musical realms.

DJ Leon loves both original versions and re-edits. As diverse as the grooves may be, they’re all part of the “Funk-O-Sphere.“ Vinyl is the medium par excellence. It has always played a central role in his sets—not out of nostalgia, but because it acts as a kind of filter: whatever makes it into the collection carries weight. Every selection is a deliberate choice, not an algorithm. Exclusively for the Monday Listening Club, a handpicked selection of summery, laid-back grooves will accompany DJ Leon’s musical journey.
