This lecture will offer an introduction to the epistemic politics of walking, relevant in theoretical and practical approaches, and it will outline the idea of Critical Walking Studies. The foundations of this research can be exemplified by the right to walk. This entails both individual walking as well as the walking of the many, the walking of the masses. The central question concerns the different discrepancies of vulnerability, exposure and exploitability of bodies enabled by possible body alliances and political power dynamics.

The research field of Walking Studies encompasses various and diverse research areas, such as performance, visual art, anthropology, social studies, urban research, border studies, health sciences, disability studies, transport planning, political science, gender studies, migration studies, studies of strikes…

Followed by an artist talk moderated by Thomas Edlinger.
