(born 1976 in Hamburg) studied visual communication and experimental design at the Berlin University of the Arts and photography and sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologne, Italy. Since 2004 Mirko Mielke has been documenting the disappearance of buildings. In his photographs and installations, architecture becomes a carrier of visual communication and thus an independent object of perception.
His works about the East German Ministry of Health in Berlin and prefab high rises in Berlin Marzahn-Hellerdorf demonstrate the paradox of the presence and absence of buildings and their material remains, establishing a relationship between photography and architectural fragments. Selected recent exhibitions: Le Confi dent/ La Causeuse, Galerie Kvant, Berlin and Source/Resource, Wilde Gallery, Berlin.
