Art Space

The MQ is a place of diversity. In one of its aspects it is an art space exploring a wide variety of different art movements and styles. Renowned museums and exhibition halls are just as much at home here as small cultural initiatives, classics of modernism, and young artists of the current century.

The LEOPOLD MUSEUM houses the formerly private collection of Rudolf and Elisabeth Leopold. It presents the world's largest collection of works by Austria's most important Expressionist, Egon Schiele (1890-1918), and juxtaposes masterpieces from around 1900 by artists ranging from Gustav Klimt to Kolo Moser with objects from the Austrian arts and crafts movement from the same period. Modern and contemporary art in Central Europe is shown at the MUMOK (Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien) with a comprehensive collection of international art from the 20th century. The collection spans from Cubist, Futurist, and Surrealist works of classical modernism to Pop Art, Fluxus, and Nouveau Realism from the 1960s and 1970s. Contemporary art is also presented at the KUNSTHALLE wien. Themes range from the presentation of young emerging artists to major projects and monographic exhibitions with prominent international stars who were at the forefront of innovative trends in recent decades.

International and unusual events from the disciplines of music, theater, and dance take place throughout the year at Halle E+G. They include international productions, the Vienna Festival, the ImPulsTanz festival, and events staged by Tanzquartier Wien. Thanks to the winning combination of Baroque and modern architecture, Halle E+G is also popular with institutions and corporations as a venue for social events and presentations.

Tanzquartier Wien is Austria's first center for contemporary dance and performance. The majority of its events talk place in TQW Halle G and in the TQW dance studios, where various training programs and workshops for professional dancers are offered during the day. The studio complex also contains a theory and media center that is open to the public.

The Architekturzentrum Wien was the first cultural institution in the MuseumsQuartier. The diversity of contemporary architecture is presented with the permanent exhibition "a_show: Austrian Architecture in the 20th and 21st Century," several changing exhibitions a year, and an extensive selection of educational programs and events. The emphasis is on architecture of the 20th and 21st centuries as well as the future.

The MQ also offers art and cultural facilities specially designed for children.
ZOOM Kindermuseum focuses on kids aged 8 months to 14 years. In four difference zones (exhibition, ZOOM Atelier, ZOOM animation studio, and ZOOM Ozean) they are encouraged to question, explore, feel, and play all they want. Kids discover the world with all their senses here. They can touch objects, try them out, and understand through hands-on experiences. DSCHUNGEL WIEN Theaterhaus für junges Publikum is a theater for young audiences, an open center for children, families, and teens, offering productions for age groups ranging from toddlers to young adults. The program covers everything from narrative theater to puppet, object, and figure theater, dance, dance theater, and interdisciplinary forms as well as modern media, and film. As a service provider for children and their parents, wienXtra-kinderinfo (in cooperation with Magistrate Department 13 specializing in youth) offers free and comprehensive information about all recreational activities in Vienna for kids ages 13 and under. It pays special attention to kids culture, games and sports, creativity, dance, and music.
