Pop seems to be prepared when we enter the studio: His brand new collection is flattering in the noisy wind that comes through the open windows. „I‘m okay with the rumor down in Burggasse. I mean it’s nothing compared to the traffic sounds I’m confronted with in Bangkok.“

The Thai fashion designer graduated from Bangkok Fashion Academy and continued his studies at Institut Francais de la Mode in Paris. After an internship at Maison Martin Margiela he founded the label Wonder Anatomie in 2009.

The aesthetics of Wonder Anatomie are influenced by graphic elements from Asian art and culture. In the right corner one can see an example of the technique he uses to change the the look of fabrics. It’s acid, baby!

During his residency at quartier21 Chalermkiat will provide insight to his exotic world in a workshop and present his collection “Tattoo after death” at the MQ VIENNA FASHION WEEK.12. Workshop registration: info@combinat.at

You can see that it was more uni colour, a little bit reduced compared to this year’s collection. Anyway, it’s still about anatomy, I was inspired by bone structures.“

„At the moment a lot of artists use the images of skulls and bones in their work. I use them to make it look like a tattoo and then I make different layers.“

We would like to know if there is a message behind it. Fashion and death… Is the mortality of beings corresponding with the evanescence of fashion?

POP smiles and has a charmingly pragmatic answer to this: „I just wanted to develop something that creates a sort of value of brand recognition. Everybody should recognize a piece of WONDER ANATOMIE“

„My career? I went to school, after school I sold my stuff on the side of the streets in Bangkok. With the money I earned I bought my first sewing machine. So I started step by step with 400 Euros starting capital.“

And now?

„I sell a lot of those blouses“, he says decently while showing us a neon chiffon like transparent beauty. „I don‘t know, I guess the ladies love to wear it for parties or something.“

Luckily we brought a model with us. Julia in WONDER ANATOMIE’s black plastic skirt … with the matching hat.
